This book contains 110 extraordinary black and white photographs of Greece in the 1950s and 1960s, in an era of innocence in the Aegean islands. Most of the photos are 8 1/2 inches square and were taken with a Rolleiflex. It was printed in tritone by Trifolio of Verona, Italy, and designed by Vasso Avramopoulou, the leading book designer in Greece. It is in both Greek and English. Introductory essays are by Edmund Keeley, John Camp and Andrew Szegedy-Maszak. Many of the photographs have an iconic quality. The four sections of the book cover History, People, the Seas, and Orthodoxy.
Robert McCabe grew up in the New York City area and first travelled to Greece in 1954. He now lives part of the year in Athens. He is currently working on a book of photographs he has taken in the Antarctic.
