Brown served in the Civil War and was an Atlanta attorney and businessman. He was general counsel for the Western and Atlanta Railroad, and built street railways in Atlanta as well. ANTI-PROHIBITION consists of a series of letters written by Brown to the Atlanta Constitution in the 1880's in which he protests strenuously against "the prohibition craze." He makes good use of the Bible: "Start not, my prohibition friend, when I tell you that Christ drank wine. He drank it so often in His life that He was called a 'WINE BIBBER'." (p. 9).
