In this day of jet aircraft, space travel and aviation accepted as a normal part of the transport system it is interesting to look back at the state of flight and aircraft in 1930, when flying was still in the early stages of development. Although designed for "boys" this book is aimed at the more mature young reader and thus contains much information that is now mostly part of the legendry era of flight. The text follows the developoment and advances of aircraft and airships from the earliest concepts and in spite of a the title has a chapter "Girls Can Fly,Too." A classic of its times and interestingly, the author's father had published one of the earliest books on flight in 1913, "Harper's Aircraft Book." and this 1930 copy is from "Harper's Practical Book Series." 316 pages including final chapters on famous pilots and records, followed by an extensive glossary of aviation terms, nine full page b/w plates, 37 technical drawings, sketches, plans. maps, tables, e/paper maps. Blue hard covers with black front/spine titles (small decoration to front) VG with few spots to front, spine sunned with brusising to extremities, front board loose, with cracking at gutter, but firmly attached, rear board slightly loose, small ink name on half title, text block otherwise VG+.
