Thorgeirssonar [the Almanak offered here], containing, as it does, since 1899 contributions towards the history of the various [Icelandic] settlements". W. Kristjanson, in The Icelandic People in Manitoba, states that "A most impressive contribution to the Icelandic people in [North] America is contained in the Almanak of O. S. Thorgeirsson, published annually 1895-1956. For forty years in Thorgeirsson's lifetime, and continued by Richard Beck, was accumulted issue by issue historical and biographical material which takes in virtually all the Icelandic settlements in [North] America" He adds that "able writers" contributed to the Almanak. In the 1954 volume, Dr. Beck includes his own article on poet Stephan G. Stephansson, for example. Beginning in 1897, the Almanac lists deaths among the Icelandic settlers; from 1899 it also features articles on individual prominent members of the Icelandic-Canadian and American commuities and articles on the various communities themselves.
