Hoffman (1822-1903) was a German emigrant who settled in Illinois, rose to a position of importance as a lawyer, was a friend of both Lincoln and Grant, and became Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. Upon retirement, he moved to Jefferson, Wisconsin and wrote several books and many shorter pieces to assist German settlers adapt to American life. Book condition VG-. Binding: Hardback.
