[8]-538-[54] pp. Paris, Nicolas Chesneau, 1577, in-4, [8]-538-[54] pp, Basane tabac de la fin du XVIIe s, dos à nefs et fleuronné, riche décor de dentelle, fleurs de lys, roulettes et armes centrales sur les plats, tranches dorées [Reliure d'agonothète aux armes de Dey de Seraucourt], Édition originale de cette histoire héroïque des rois de France, depuis l'arrivée des Francs jusqu'au règne de François Ier, par l'historien Jean Papire Masson (1544-1611) : l'auteur y assoit la légitimité et l'autorité royale, à la suite du débat qui suivit publication de la Franco-Gallia du protestant François Hotman (1575). Bel exemplaire de prix, établi dans une reliure d'agonothète typique, ornée d'un semis de fleurs de lys et de roulettes poussées à l'or. On y trouve, sur une garde blanche en tête de volume, l'ex-praemio manuscrit à l'encre en latin, daté d'août 1684, signé par le directeur du collège jésuite de Bourges, J. de Gouvets : l'agonothète, c'est-à-dire le donateur, est le seigneur Louis-François Dey de Séraucourt (1645-1744), intendant de la province du Berry à partir de 1682, dont les armes - d'azur à trois chevrons d'or - sont frappées sur le plat supérieur.* Le prix s'adresse à un jeune élève, Fransciscus Souciet (François Souciet)** Sur la garde en regard de l'ex-praemio se trouve le timbre à sec de la Compagnie de Jésus. Ex-libris manuscrit "Souciet 1701" sur la page de titre. Étiquette ex-libris moderne sur le contreplat (R.N.). Adams M-867. USTC n° 171391. * Dey de Séraucourt, proche de Colbert, fonda des ateliers de charité à Bourges et, sur ordre du duc de Beauvillier, réalisa une enquête sur le Berry, destinée à l'éducation du duc de Bourgogne, le "petit dauphin" : il s'agit de l'un des plus anciens documents statistiques sur cette ancienne province. Il a laissé son nom, dans Bourges, à l'esplanade située sur le terrain qu'il fit niveler. ** Peut-être François Souciet, l'un des nombreux enfants de François Souciet, avocat au Parlement de Bourges et échevin de cette même ville, en 1697-1698 (Voir : Dictionnaire des journalistes 1600-1789.
