Their international award-winning imagery encompasses landscapes, seascapes, ice, snow, wildlife, the hand of man, abstracts and realism. The Keoughs' compositions are strong and engaging. Though professional photographers have recorded Antarctic scenes since the days of Robert Scott's failed 1910-13 expedition, the Keoughs' book, with 345 plates showing scenes from subantarctic islands to the heart of the continent, stands out for its breadth. The Keoughs and their book have collected 21 awards for photography and craftsmanship including "Nature Photographer of the Year" and "World's Best Photography Book" by the International Photography Awards Committee, the Benjamin Franklin Award, and the gold medal for "Outstanding Book of the Year and Best Book arts Craftsmanship" by the Independent Publisher Book Awards competition. "Antarctica" is substantial. In its accompanying presentation box, the tome weighs 27.6 lbs and has dimensions of 18.25" x 15" x 3.75". The volume itself is 17.25" x 13.5" x 2.5". This collection of fine photography was elegantly bound in Canada by hand using skills and techniques that date to the 15th century. The tactile experience of the book is enhanced by luxurious, archival materials. Genuine morocco leather tanned in Scotland clad the heavy, leather covers. This fine goat leather is also specified for the flyleaf joints. The doublures are inlaid with French flocked-velvet, this lovely material also incorporated on the flyleaves. For the sewing, strong Irish linen thread and linen tapes were used. Dutch linen and French velvet clad the presentation box.
