Original calf leather spine with 12.5cm loss descending from head of rear joint with some adjacent loss to rear board, small chip at spine heel, marbled paper boards well rubbed, leather board corners heavily worn. Gilt stamped lettering upon spine remains quite bright; title page indicates that this is Volume 31 but "Vol. 29" is stamped on spine leather. Pencil notation upon front pastedown and on page 618. Some browning and foxing upon interior leaves. The Congressional Globe is the forerunner of the Congressional Record. Discussions in this first session of the 33rd Congress included the organization of the Kansas and Nebraska Territories, the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, the River and Harbor Bill, and much more.
