Hardcover, elephant folio., quarter green leather from J. Hewit & Sons of Edinburgh, with hand-marbled boards by Ingeborg Borjeson of Enskede, Sweden, containing twenty-five full size colour plates, with separate page describing each plant and distribution map, index of plant names, preceded by 30pp of introduction by Wilfred Blunt and biography of Bauer by Stern with a double-page map indicating the routes of the "Investigator, "Porpoise" and the "Cumberland" which was produced by John Woodcock of Surrey and sources for further information. All housed in a linen covered hinged solander box. Couple of small marks to the box but book is in near fine condition. This is copy 284 of 500 numbered that were for sale at time of publicatin. Some might consider Ferdinand Bauer the greatest male botanical painter of all time. Ferdinand Bauer was botanist on the voyage led by Matthew Flinders during his circumnavigation of Australia in 1801-1803. N° de réf. du libraire
