A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

Nicky Campbell, the Radio 5 Live and BBC1 Watchdog presenter, was adopted as a baby into a comfortable Protestant Scottish family. He always knew he was adopted, but didn't begin searching for his birth mother until he was in his thirties. When he found her, what she told him came as a shock. The clash of cultures, creed, and ideology between his parent's world and the world he grew up in couldn't be more striking. In this refreshingly candid book, he tells the story of his journey to find his parents, the dark secrets that have been revealed, and the journey he had to make after finding them.

From the Back Cover:

‘Blue-Eyed Son is a personal history, but its themes – family, self-identity and filial love – are universal’

Frances Hardy, Daily Mail

Raised in a comfortable middle-class home, Nicky Campbell’s Scottish Protestant family cared for him and nurtured him as their own, while remaining open about the fact he’d been adopted. His father – an ex-army man – and his mother helped him to a good school and a good university. Nicky rarely thought of his birth parents, until a combination of an imploding marriage and a chance meeting with a private detective led him to track his mother down.

Nicky Campbell brilliantly recalls their reunion, evoking all the complex and deep-seated emotions that their newly found relationship provokes. And, as they became closer, Nicky discovered far more than he expected. Not only did he have a sister, Esther – with whom he would later forge a strong bond – but his natural father was a committed Republican whose own father had served alongside Michael Collins in the IRA.

In this emotionally gripping and refreshingly honest memoir, Nicky Campbell vividly describes the many sides of a family’s dark history.

Nicky Campbell’s has worked at Capital Radio, Radio 1 and since 1997 has presented a hugely popular show on Five Live. As a TV presenter he has worked on Top of the Pops, Panorama, Newsnight and currently fronts BBC1’s Watchdog. He is married with four daughters and lives in London.
