Sir William Osler (1849-1919), a Canadian physician who has been called "the father of modern medicine," bought these letters at auction, and they now are available for research at McGill University. Gjuro or Giorgio Baglivi (1668-1707) was an Armenian doctor, medical researcher, anatomist, and early pathologist, who contributed a great deal to medical knowledge and practice. This is a collection of 140 letters written to him, with replies and other manuscripts. Includes introduction, literature cited, name and place index. Small quarto (11" x 8"), forest green cloth hard cover, fine; no dust jacket (as issued?) but protected in acid-free mylar. Large and heavy; extra postage may be required.
