Beige boards with gilt stamping to spine and front cover. Jacket is a full-color reproduction of one of the watercolors in the book, depicting a Louisiana plantation house (St. Louis Plantation in Plaquemine, near Baton Rouge). Front and back endpapers also reproduce watercolors from the book, in color. Signed on half-title page "Ben Earl Looney." Text in mint condition, clean and tight. Jacket is clipped and has a half-inch closed tear to front panel, light rub to top of spine, but otherwise excellent, with bright color and no sign of sunning. Dated 1972 with no edition stated, but believed to be a first. The book offers a beau sejour (beautiful journey) through Louisiana plantation country, with 44 watercolor illustrations of such plantation houses as Houmas House, Tezcuco, Oak Alley, Nottaway, Parlange, and Rosedown; plus 7 pen-and-ink drawings of scenes including the French Quarter in New Orleans and Looney's studio. The author has written a foreword, a preface, and brief, two- or three-paragraph descriptions of each scene depicted. A handsome book in excellent condition. 99 pages. Size: 11 x 8.50".
