Description du livre Appeals Press, Richmond, VA, 1918. Hardcover. État : Very Good. First Edition First Printing. 12mo. (536) pages. Hardcover bound in pale green cloth iwth cover lettering in black. Light rubbing and wear to the binding. The top corners are slightly bumped, but overall a sound, clean copy. Inner hinges secure. Signed on the front pastedown, "R. G. Cherry / Sept 30, 1919." Robert Gregg Cherry (1891-1957) was the 61st Governor of North Carolina (1945-1949) during WWII. He was a lawyer and had been the mayor of Gastonia and had earned his Bachelor's degree in law from Trinity College (1914), now Duke University. He was in WWI in the NC 1st Cavalry in the machine gun troop. He returned to Gastonia in April, 1919 to discover he had been nominated for Mayor of Gastonia. A nice copy of a book signed by him in the year he entered politics. Signed, Association Copy. N° de réf. du libraire 034282

Church, South, 1927. 461 pages. Original blue cloth stamped in gold. [19.9 cm.] A bright, very good plus copy in good dust jacket. Light rubbing to spine ends, minor foxing to endpapers, light offsetting to four pages from clippings. Jacket has chip to head of spine panel, not affecting lettering, a few other small chips, several tears with internal repairs, small scuff to rear panel affecting several letters of text (easily inferred from context), sun-darkening to spine panel, and small stain to front panel. Scarce with the jacket in any condition. Third edition, but the first from this press. The first two editions (1918, 1920) appear to have been self-published as well and were printed by the Appeals Press, Richmond. Stories of the North Carolina mountains. Joseph Medley Rowland (1886-1938), a native of North Carolina, became a preacher in Lynchburg and Richmond, Virginia, and published several books. N° de réf. du libraire 0000277
