Titre : Breakdown
Éditeur : Artangel Artangel, February 2001, Artangel, February 2001
Date d'édition : 2001
Michael Landy with money from Artangel set up shop on Oxford Street in a huge space where Allders appeared then Primark, machines appropriately day and night crushing all his belongings. The results were then shipped to a landfill. The inventory was made first (of all 1,006 different things) in 10 categories, including his and fellow artists’ artworks, every piece of clothing, a large collection of single socks, etc. Two weeks later the possessions were broken down, then separated into the materials they were made of. These were then shredded or granulated – the inventory remains. The results became a loose-leaf book showing the actual installation and final granulating. Inventory, manual, interview, case study, etc. contained within a plastic binder. This copy comes with four original folded 6-inch strips, 1 inch wide, of orange rubberized plastic rescued during floor cleaning on the final night, the only known remnant of Breakdown.
