Détails bibliographiques

Titre : Breaking Prairie Sod : The Story of a ...

Éditeur : Musson Book Co. Limited, Toronto

Date d'édition : 1920

Description :

265 pages. About 5 by 7 1/2 inches in size. Inflammatory cover art. Toronto : Musson, [1920]. The book is About Fine in red cloth with gilt blindstamped lettering to front board and spine. In rare dust jacket. Jacket hs small chips at extremities, still VG. The red and black front panel of the dust jacket shows men in military or police uniforms burning a red (Bolshevik?) flag, with onlookers in civilian dress cheering them on. In the background is a building (likely meant to be a town hall or church) from which police officers or soldiers are removing chairs, suggesting a 'seditious' meeting had just been raided. The rear panel of the dj and the two flaps are blank. A number of major Canadian libraries have this book. Some are listed on the Advanced Book Exchange, but none of those listed on the 'ABE' site include a dust jacket; and one dealer claims a jacket was never issued. Peel (3), at #1348 doesn't mention a jacket, and in your Peel database, the scan shows the cloth cover. While there is some loss of text at the tip of the spine. the front panel of the dj on my copy has only minor chips with no loss of text. The dj illustrates the contemporary nativist/British hostility to the 'aliens' of Western Canada, in keeping with the theme of the book. N° de réf. du libraire 34375
