Thorgeirsson and Breidablik Publishing Company, published 1906/1907 to 1913/1914 (we have Year I complete except for issue I (2) and (10) (1906-7) and Year II complete in 12 issues, bound in a single bound volume - of half cloth and paper over boards (hardcover); also these issues: Oct, 1906; April/May/sept/oct/nov/dec 1909; Jan/March 1910; april/june/december 1913; Jan/Feb and March/May 1914. All issues in Very Good or better condition. DESCRIPTION/CONTENTS/SUBJECTS: A monthly Icelandic-Canadian liberal Lutheran theology periodical, but also a cultural and literary magazine (see Kristjanson, The Icelandic People in Manitoba, p. 501 for description). It was edited by a noted Icelandic-Canadian Lutheran clergyman and writer whose abilities as an essayist "blossomed" in its pages (see Einarsson, History of Icelandic Prose Writers, p. 236). The most important Icelandic-Canadian writers published in this journal - for example: New Iceland's poet Stephan G. Stephansson contributed often (see Oct/06 issue and many other issues); poet Guttormur Guttormsson did as well (see Sept/06 and Oct/06 and many other issues); other Canadian resident writers of importance who appear in its pages are Thorstein Thorsteinsson; Einar Hjorleifsson Kvaran; Einar Benediktsson; Valdimar Breim; J. Magnus Bjarnason and others. There are also biographical sketches as well as local histories of Icelandic communities. Translations into Icelandic of world literature also included, as are many illustrations from photos (usually portraits of Icelandic-Canadian writers, clergymen and prominent women church figures). Each issue includes about 16 pages. Rare and important early Icelandic-Canadian church and literary/cultural periodical. N° de réf. du libraire 35686
