Date d'édition : 1923

Reliure : Soft cover

Description :

Small octavo, single issue, printed wrappers, stapled. The last issue of Lovecraft's own amateur journal and the most important magazine he edited. Ten poems and thirty-five articles and editorials by Lovecraft appear in THE CONSERVATIVE which comprised thirteen issues published from April 1915 to July 1923. The first three issues were written almost entirely by Lovecraft, but thereafter his contributions decline considerably except for occasional poems and, beginning with the October 1916 issue, a regular column of opinion entitled "In the Editor's Study." The issues range from four to twenty-eight pages, this one is twenty-eight pages. The only Lovecraft contributions to this issue are his column, "In the Editor's Study" and his news notes and editorial comments, pp. 21-[28]. Other contributors to this issue include Samuel Loveman (a poem) and Frank Belknap Long (a prose poem). According to Lovecraft, the first issue of THE CONSERVATIVE was limited to 210 copies. The print runs of later issues are not known, but 200 copies or so is probably a fair estimate. All issues are now rare. Joshi I-D-ii-2 and I-B-ii-156. Light soiling to covers, a nearly fine copy. This copy was presented by Loveraft's friend and fellow writer Clark Ashton Smith to SF fan/publisher/collector Larry B. Farsaci. A notable association copy of a legendary rarity. For a write-up on Farsaci, publisher of THE GOLDEN ATOM and other amateur magazines, see Warner, ALL OUR YESTERDAYS, pp. 63-4. (#146509). N° de réf. du libraire 146509
