Description du livre W. Simpkin and R. Marshall, London, 1834. Hardcover. État : Good+. Etat de la jaquette : No Dust Jacket. Presumed 2nd Edition. In the original Publishers dark russian green blind stamped/decorated cloth with quite bright gilt titling to the spine, which has 5 stamped 'bands' in imitation of a leather binding. The edges of the boards are faded/discoloured running about 1" /1 1/2" into the boards. The head/tail of the spine is 'bumped' & slightly chipped/split. All 4 corners are 'turned/bumped', but the hinges are tight and the covers are complete and sound - now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks near VG. Internally - plain yellow endpapers. The front pastedown has a former owners bookplate . 'This book belongs to - (written in in ink) is 'Henry Parry. Wesleyan Minister' .' . There is a small booksellers label at the foot of the same page. And a later owner has written his name in red biro on the front free endpaper. There is a small 1/2 inch tear with loss to the same page. The page fore-edges are a little 'toned'/dust engrained, and the first third of the book has the retained 'impression' of something oval that had obviously been in the book a long time. The rest of the pages are generally a little 'wavy', but apart from a little light foxing here and there, overall the text block is VERY Clean, Tight and Bright. (ix) + (3) + 385 pp + (2 pp Publisher's Book Advertisements). No Edition stated - but the first Edition was 1824 - so presume this is a Second Edition. "Editor and journalist, John Humphreys Parry or John Humffreys Parry (1786 - 1825 ) , known also as his bardic name 'Ordovex'. He made an important contribution to the revival of interest in literature and took a prominent part in the activities of the Cultural and London Welsh in the first quarter of the 19th century. " Whether 'Henry Parry' was a relation is unknown? ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall. N° de réf. du libraire 111191
