Éditeur : Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company July 2007

Date d'édition : 2007

Reliure : Hardcover

Etat du livre : New

Description :

Comparable to the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scriptureseries, only more comprehensive, The Church's Bible is publisher William B. Eerdmans's prodigious effort at compiling and assembling patristic and medieval commentary on the entirety of Christian scripture. Each book begins with an informative essay on scriptural exegesis according to Church tradition, then proceeds to present passages of scripture line by line from both the Hebrew Septuagint and Latin Vulgate, followed by brief introductory remarks by the translator and editor. But the meat of these volumes is the texts themselves. Considerably longer than the selections in the ACCS series, the sources gathered here are drawn not only from devotional, homiletical and theological works, but also directly from ancient commentaries themselves. 590 pp. N° de réf. du libraire 68913

Note de l'éditeur: This work draws on the writings of the church fathers - including Eusebius of Caesarea, Jerome, Cyril of Alexandria and Theodoret of Cyrus. It sheds light on how often the New Testament writers quote Isaiah. Each chapter begins with a modern English translation of the Septuagint. It provides a foundation for understanding the excerpted commentaries and other writings that follow for each chapter.
