Description du livre Collins & Brown, Ltd., 1995. Hardcover. État : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. 1st Edition. "First published in Great Britain in 1995 by Collins & Brown, Limited." Number line complete 135798642. A lovely book, essentially as new (though not tight enough to close its own boards), profusely illustrated with photos both color and B&W. "Cliveden in Buckinghamshire is one of the great country houses of England." Set on banks 130 feet above the Thames, the site has been home to an earl, three countesses, two dukes, a Prince of Wales and the Viscounts Astor. As the home of Nancy Astor, it was the meeting place of the Cliveden set -- a group of political intellectuals -- of the 1920s and 1930s. Later, during the 1960s, it (and one particular outbuilding) became the setting for key events of the notorious Profumo Affair, a scandal that led to the collapse of the Conservative government in 1964. Today owned by the National Trust (Socialism? Where?), the house is leased as a five-star hotel run by London & Regional Properties. 224 pp. including index and bibliography. A NOTE TO OUR OVERSEAS CUSTOMERS: While we welcome offshore orders, heavy books present a special problem. We ship our books in boxes, and all international boxes of more than 4 lbs. must now travel by air, "Priority Mail." This book is thus likely to cost something on the order of $54 to ship overseas. While we rebate overage above actual shipping costs, overseas buyers should not order this book or other heavy books unless they're willing to approve and pay the requisite "Priority" shipping. This book now reduced from $60. N° de réf. du libraire 002834
