A propos de cet article

A collection of the writings of Isaac of Nineveh (also Isaac the Syrian or Isaac Syrus) the Nestorian bishop of Nineveh in the latter half of the seventh century, together with the letters of Giovanni dalle Celle. The text for this Italian edition (printed in 1720) is based on the Latin Liber de contemptu mundi, which itself was translated from a Greek version of the Syriac original. Small 4to, xxxx + 144pp. + viii + 80pp. With lovely title-page engraving, large woodcut initials, decorative woodcut headpieces and other devices throughout. Bound in contemporary full vellum with boards. Text is generally clean, with occasional tanning to pages. Neat penciled marginal notations to the second section, but the text itself is clean. Dampstain affecting upper portion of title and following page, and light dampstain to gutter of the last 8 leaves. The binding is intact but open at title, with stitching exposed. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Light soiling and wear to vellum. Still a very nice, solid, copy despite these defects. Exceedingly scarce. N° de réf. du libraire 20110502251257
