The Master of the Invisible House was Purdy's friend, Sam Steward. While teaching in Chicago at Loyola and DePaul Universities in 1952 Sam Steward began a career tattooing using the name Phil Sparrow so as to not endanger his teaching jobs. In the 1960s he began writing gay erotica using the name Phil Andros. He and Purdy became close friends. This copy is also signed in full by Purdy on the title page.
