This book covers the eggs of British birds including: Falcons, Owls, Swan, Geese, Ducks, Herons, Storks, Pelicans, Sheerwaters, Petrels, Divers, Grebes, Crakes, Terns Gulls, Plovers, Curlews, Sandpipers, Doves, Grouse, Bee-eaters, Rollers, Cuckoos, Thrush, Crows, Buntings, Larks, Martins, and Pheasants, et.al. Book has gilt titles to spine and upper board. Wear to corners and top/bottom of spine with some slight damage to top/bottom of spine. Fading to spine and edges of boards with a few splash marks to spine and minor scrapes to rear board. Foxing to edges. Foxing to endpapers and occasionally throughout. The plates are generally very good with some foxing to margins. Otherwise in VG condition with no inscriptions. This is a heavy book and extra postage is required for non-UK customers. Head and tail of spine and corners bumped, with light rubbing to spine corners. Lower board with blind ruled decoration,also two abraded marks. Front end paper cracked at hinge. Upper board plus spine pulling away from text block at top of hinge area, but board remains very well attached. Pale foxing in some degree to nearly all of the 60 remarkable quality chromolithographed plates of eggs, also occasionally through book, but nothing really offensive. The book a circa 1880 probably comprehensive study of UK bird population; details of bird, nest structure, eggs with numbers and dimensions, favoured localities, rarity.
