Description :

Language: English . Brand New Book. Dubbed by Martin Parr the new whiz kid of British documentary, Stephen Gill (born 1971) records the immediacies of city sights with airy specificity and lightness of touch. Gill s latest volume, Coming Up for Air, collects work made in Japan in 2008 and 2009. Unlike previous volumes such as Hackney Flowers, these images minimize local information in favor of achieving what Gill calls a kind of fictional aquatic world. muffled chaos seen through squinted eyes. Consisting of 100 color photographs that linger and pivot upon the lightest of effects, this superb work of bookmaking comes with a handpainted acetate dustjacket and is certain to prove both a classic photobook and a collectible. Synopsis : 97 colour photographs by Stephen Gill (all the photographs were taken in Japan between 2008 and 2009) / 97 fotografie a colori di Stephen Gill, scattate in Giappone dal 2008 al 2009 . 4to pp. 100 Rilegato tela, sovracoperta in acetato (cloth, acetate dust jacket) Each book has its own unique cover, individually hand painted by Gill / Ogni libro ha una sua copertina originale ed unica, dipinta a mano da Gill Nuovo (New) Coming Up for Air esplora quell'"immaginario mondo acquatico che ti lascia in qualche modo senza fiato" ed ? il culmine di un progetto a lungo termine realizzato in Giappone.

Synopsis: Coming up for Air is the result of Stephen Gills long-term photographic body of work made in Japan between 2008 and 2009. The images were created in Japan, but are not essentially about that country; rather, they convey a reaction to our times. Gills photographs create a chance to since into a kind of fictional aquatic world that not only amounts to an aesthetic delight but also somehow leaves you gasping for breath. The book is made up of faint and barely audible traces from the real world Imagine holding your breath and putting your fingers in your ears to mute the turbulence of the modern world. Unlike other well-known series by Gill, this collection features images whose information has been starved or completely denied, like muffled chaos seen through squinted eyes.
