Lapide (in Dutch, van den Steen) was a prolific exegete and lifelong professor of Scrip-ture. His commentaries have proven to have enduring value, as they draw upon his prodigious knowledge of ancient languages, patristics, history, and philosophy. The present volume is a later edition of his commentary on Ecclesiastes, which was first published in Antwerp in 1634. 4to, [iv] + 794 + pp. Flexible vellum with four spine bands. Good condition overall. The volume is ex-library, with a white call number to the spine, stamps to front matter, and a pocket on the rfep. ?Ecclesiasticus 1703? is handwritten in pencil across the front cover. Covers are in fair condition. Vellum is moderately darkened, somewhat warped, and worn through at corners and at tail of spine. Front and rear pastedowns are severely bubbled, leaving impressions in the book block. Front hinge is partially cracked; binding is otherwise good, with firm stitching. Some staining to head margins of book block; text unaffected. Some worming to head corner of central pages; text likewise unaffected. Pages are somewhat moisture-warped, but the printing is clear, clean, and free of notations. N° de réf. du libraire 159697
