Description du livre RareBooksClub. Paperback. État : New. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. 98 pages. Dimensions: 9.7in. x 7.4in. x 0.2in.This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1873 Excerpt: . . . the Somalli Arabs would desert the place and go elsewhere: we would rejoice if they did, and say Joy go with you. Their own statement shows that while they remain there no other trade is likely to be developed in East Africa: we fear as yet we are not sufficiently advanced in our manner of dealing with this question of slave-trading, and that the tendency is to. consider the interest of the Zanzibar Arabs as superior to the far grealer number of the human nice in Afric-n. Africa has to be civilized and Christianized, and eventually must be. When is the work to be commenced Are we to postpone it for future generations to accomplish to sit on the cushions, stuffed by our forefathers, and wear them out, leaving no feathers for our descendants If nations and individuals are judged, so also will generations be, for omission of good as well as commission of evil, and the evil begins where the omission of duties ceases. The tides are either ebbing or flowing; they do not cease to flow in all places at the same time, there are always eddies running out before the flow has ceased entirely, but in the end the whole turns. Unless the tide of civilization continues to advance, unless we as a nation continue to be of some use, as instruments in the hands of the Almighty, as we have been hitherto, in moulding and planing the world into a civilized form, as the Anglo-Saxon race has been forward in doing, --we shall surely be put aside like a blunt instrument, and one of a keener edge taken up instead. APPENDIX. APPENDIX. EXTRACTS FROM EVIDENCE TAKEN BEFORE THE SELECT COMMITTEE OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. M R. CHCRCHILL, C. B. , called in; and examined. 287. I will ask you whether you are acquainted with the statements of Dr. Livingstone with rega. . . This item ships from La Vergne,TN. Paperback. N° de réf. du libraire 9781231654217
