A propos de cet article

CONDITION: Near Fine with Good Plus jacket; no names, straight and clean, two tiny bumps on bottom edge; in clean, bright jacket with light edgewear here and there; half inch tear at spine foot with complex rubbed 1" tear above it, affecting publisher's name, about 3/8" damage to spine head; unclipped 1.00. New York: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Co. 1940/1940 1st, sd and nap; green cloth backed illustrated tan paper boards, with sepia drawing of an extraordinary looking dog; endpapers with a beautiful coloured lithograph of the dog heading out from a cottage high on the altiplano of Peru, with mountains in the background, in a jacket with a full coloured litho of Chancho, the dog, sitting with his master Pablo outside their cottage; 7x8.25"; np. Chancho's parents were a Boxer and a Mastiff, and he is an odd combination of the two. His poor master is so sad when the crops fail and Chancho wants desperately to help out. Perhaps if he could whistle? He finds a tin whistle in the grass but swallows it accidentally and Pablo is so frightened of the sound his dog makes, he bolts the door against him. (happy ending though) Such an ugly and appealing dog, and the illustrations are just right. ABE Heritage Seller since 1996; conservative AB condition grading.
