[2], 267 pages, illustrations, cloth, DJ, very good. 8.5 by 11 inches. 1st edition. Scarce. Inscribed by Bob Jeska "To Meade Patterson, my friend and fellow arms student." From the Britannica Concise Encyclopedia: "Simeon North (1765-1852) U. S. Firearms manufacturer. He supplied pistols and rifles to the U. S. Government from 1799. He developed the use of interchangeable parts in manufacturing and the first-known milling machine. In 1825 he built a breech-loading rifle with fully interchangeable parts. " From the dust jacket: "Bob Jeska has spent several weeks a year for the past decade at the National Archives in Washington, DC. This occupation was originally only a search for records that would further his personal knowledge of the U. S. Martial pistols that he had been collection for thirty years. The primary quest was to find records that would determine how many Model 1811 Simeon North pistols were actually delivered to the United States. The records that he found, however, brought so much other new information to light that he felt that it should be made general knowledge so the old, inaccurate, and false information could be laid to rest. Rather than writing a narrative of the story, Bob made a chronology of the actual letters and documents and presents them, along with his interpretation of the events, in this volume.
