Détails bibliographiques

Titre : Edda (Akureyri, Iceland) - Year 2 (April, ...

Date d'édition : 1958

Description :

Hjartar (p. 73) concedes that the third year of this unusual journal was devoted to writings of North American Icelandic writings (mostly biographical sketches of the most prominent writers), but he fails to include the earlier combined issue number 2-3 published in 1946 was equally focussed on Icelanders who were then writing in Canada and the U. S. (e.g., Stephan G. Stephansson, Guttormur Guttormsson, Johann M. Bjarnasson, Jakobina Johnson and others). We offer thie combined number 2-3 of 1946 from this series, edited and published by the Akureyri publisher and friend of New Iceland writers, Arni Bjarnason. The editor states on p. 18, (translation): "To the Readers: with this issue, Edda begins introducing to Icelandic readers the literary works of Icelanders in North America" and procedeeds to include biographical sketches accounts of the writings of these authors, not their writings as such. This 1946 item is in Very Good condition in softcover, magazine format, 20 X 22 cm., stapled, with author portraits on front cover. Many portraits of the writers from photos grace the pages, and many advertisements placed by businesses in Iceland (some illustrated) appear. This serial was published in three volumes from 1945-1958. It was edited by an Akureyri writer and bookseller who had an abiding interest in the Icelandic diaspora in North America. SUBJECTS: Icelanders--Iceland--Periodicals; Icelanders--North America--Periodicals; Icelanders--Canada--Periodicals; Iceland--Periodicals. Referenced in Hjartar, p. 73. At time of cataloguing, only one listing for this serial on Amicus, not at Cornell. Rare indeed. N° de réf. du libraire 35204
