This outstanding publication is the first complete catalogue of Munch's paintings, representing a decades-long project undertaken by curators and scholars from the Munch Museum in Oslo. Chronologically organized, the catalogue comprises a total of 1,789 paintings (all reproduced in color), and is published in four volumes. Three hundred of these are paintings have never been seen in public before, and there are eighty supplementary works (outline drawings on canvas or incomplete paintings). In addition to the individual commentary and appendixes, each volume contains a scholarly essay. A limited number of volumes have been earmarked for the United States.
