The front cover is detached and the spine has perished and is thus lacking. xii & 260 pages. The text block is broken and several signatures (i.e. groups of pages) are pulled. The top corner of the front endpaper is chipped and there is scattered soiling throughout. A previous owner's annotations are penciled on the front endpaper with a couple of annotations in pencil in the margins. Originally published in 1843, this is the first expanded edition of the work, edited by William Cooke Taylor with his notes updating and, in some cases, correcting errors he found in the original edition. A supplemental chapter has been added in order to examine Dr. Hengstenberg's theory respecting the Hycsos.The Irish author William Cooke Taylor (1800-1849) first wrote "A Classical Geography for the Use of Youghal School" before editing several of William Pinnock's works, including "The Ancient and Modern History of the Jews". Taylor condensed and translated Alexandre Dumas' "Travelling Sketches in Egypt and Sinai" and, with Smedley and others, contributed a history of "The Occult Sciences" for the "Encyclopaedia Metropolitana".
