First edition, No. 131 of 250 copies numbered in Red, reserved for private distribution, signed with a flourish by King; this copy also inscribed by King on the title page. With illustrations by Kenneth Linkhauser. Red batik paper-covered boards, over black cloth, with title gilt, in matching publisher's slipcase, without dust jacket, as issued. A handsome production, on acid free paper, printed and bound by the Stinehour Press. These 250 copies were given to friends on King's Christmas list. Philtrum Press was King's own private press. Inscribed by King on the title page: "For Rob and Constance Hunting - With best wishes - hope you'll enjoy this little story. Stephen King 11/30/84" Constance Hunting was the founder and editor of the Puckerbrush Press; she published Carolyn Chute’s first story and was an important and influential poet in her own right, praised by William Carlos Williams and Mary McCarthy. A Very Good/Fine copy - bottom board edges and corners lightly rubbed, in slipcase with some light wear. This edition differs textually from the trade edition that followed three years later.
