Coffin and others, original purple decorated cloth elaborately stamped in white, red, green and gold, yellow coated endpapers. First edition. A Christmas gift book for young readers issued in 1854 for the Christmas season, but postdated 1855 on the title page, as was the custom for books published for the Holiday trade. The longest tales in the book are "The Boy Captive or Jumping Rabbit's Story," a tale of Indian captivity in the Far West (pp. -76), and "The Children of the Sun," a story of Pizarro and the conquest of Peru (pp. -257).
