Pictorial Wrappers. Fine/No Jacket. 9 x 6". A souvenir booklet from c.1947, with 50+ pages of photos of the Farmers Market enclosed in a stiff pictorial wrapper that doubled as a mailing envelope. The wraparound cover features cartoon drawings of people at the market and bears the original printed price of 25 cents. Inside, black-and-white and color (tinted) photos by Herbert Bruce Cross depict carefully posed customers and sellers. The text gives a history of the market and its Gilmore Island location. (The market was opened in 1934 at the corner of Third and Fairfax Streets.) The cover cartoons and inside map of the area are by Alex Perez. This copy was mailed from L.A. to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at a cost of 4 cents. The canceled stamps bear a Los Angeles postmark. Names of sender and sendee are written in ink on the back-cover blanks. There is a minimal amount of edgewear and a bit of creasing where the cover tab fits into the cover slot, but the colors of the cover are clean and crisp with no signs of fading. A very attractive piece of California memorabilia. Size: 9 x 6". N° de réf. du libraire 000469
