Description :

22 pages, wrappers, very good. Small piece missing from corner of front cover, not affecting text. Scarce. Interesting early booklet giving the glowing prospects of gold mining in the Choco area. "Choco, a district of the State of Cauca, Republic of Colombia, South America, is considered by competent authority hereinafter referred to, to be the rich gold section in the world, many million dollars worth having been taken out by the crude workings of the native. The gravel as yet is hardly touched, and is virgin as far as company work is concerned ~ The Government of Colombia is most friendly to any legitimate enterprise pointing towards the development of the State." From "Gold: Its Geological Occurrence and Geographical Distribution" by James Malcolm Maclaren (Mining Journal, 1908) : "Perhaps the most promising placer-deposits in Colombia are those of the Choco district. ~ The gravels, both of the Choco and the San Juan, are undoubtedly rich, but the deadly climate and difficulties of transport have hitherto prevented their successful exploitation by modern methods.".
