Titre : Finnegans Wake
Éditeur : Faber, London
Date d'édition : 1939
Near perfect copy without dust jacket. The usual inner back endpaper off-staining from spine glue, otherwise fine. This novel is the funniest and the filthiest Joyce, every phrase scatological in six languages (at least). The perfect linguistic result of what great art can be produced if one doesn’t succumb to psychoanalysis (as Lacan said of Joyce, though never specified which book). On the other hand, this would imply that the normalizing effects of such, whether Freudian, Lacanian, or any other kind, has as its telos adaptation, leading to the kind of neo-fascist ideology (personal or political, in fact both) – and behaviour – a well-psychoanalyzed person now comfortable in the being/beingness of total ego would embrace. There must be another way out. And, of course, there are equally most terrifying examples of those who abjure any analysis (Freud for example). What a sorry mess. Finnegans Wake the obverse. As Beckett said, apropos his own writing, if people get headaches let them supply their own aspirin. 3,450 copies made. N° de réf. du libraire INDE-C70370
