Note: Considerable text on the author's trip to Canada and the U. S to promote temperance ideals. Author was a very prominent social activist in Iceland, a sort of Icelandic Florence Nightingale. Imprint: Akureyri : Arthur Gook (but pastedown on title page claims the author's sister, Sveinbjorg Johannsdottir, was the publisher], 1925. Note: The publisher(?), Arthur Gook, was a Pentacostal British individual who lived in Akureyri, Iceland - he translated the famous Icelandic Passion Hymns into English. The text of the book offered here was originally written in Norwegian, later translated by the author (up to p. 42) and after her death the remainder was translated by her sister, Sveinbjorg Johannsdottir. Descr. 142, [4] pages., [1] mbl./front portrait ; 23 cm. Some pages loose at spine, Light staining to margins of a few pages, wear at spine, else VG. Still a serviceable handsome book in illustrated wraps. The author, an activist Icelandic woman, and associated with the Good Templars, gives an account of her travels during which she promoted her temperance agenda throughout Icelandic settlements in Canada and the U. S., including Winnipeg, North Dakota, Minnesota, Chicago, etc. The author also visited her sister, Helga, who lived in Manitoba.
