Description :

Small Quarto. An Augustian friar, Abraham a Sacta Clara wrote this compendium of Catholic teachings in the form of sermons first issued here in Latin in 1691. A German translation was issued in Cologne in 1699--curiously, the engraved frontispiece and title to the German 1699 edition are inserted in this copy after the Index, preceding A1. This German edition frontispiece is a striking depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus with the title of the work in a cartouche at the top of the engraving. The volume is backed in early 19th century sheep with marbled paper over boards; spine tooled in gold; title label mostly perished; edgeworn but largely a nice copy; tightly trimmed margins at the time of rebinding but no loss of text; former library copy with a few tasteful 19th and 20th century markings including a blindstamp to the rubricated title; the frontispiece that belongs with this edition was engraved by B. Dener after a M. Rast. [16], [2], 528, [16]; digital images can be made available upon request. Very Good binding. N° de réf. du libraire
