Description du livre Depicted by H. Leutemann. With explanatory text by Professor A. Kirchoff. Translated from the German by George Philip, Jun. (London: George Philip & Son/Liverpool: Philip, Son & Nephew: 1888) First Edition. Pictorial cloth (bevelled boards) pp. vi, 54 (292 x 204 mm). With Twelve Plates, Printed by G. Lowensohn, Furth; these plates are double-spread Chromolithographs, and additional to the pagination. Of the 12 sections, No. 1 is ‘The Aborigines of Australia’; No. 2 is ‘The Papuas’; No. 3 is ‘The Polynesians’; each with its related doublespread chromolithograph. While naturally of its time, this book is at once noteworthy and refreshing in that the Aboriginals are not, as in so many other children’s and educational books, given as an example, 1888. First Edition. Attractive Prince Alfred College, Adelaide, Prize Label on fixed front endpaper. Dampstaining to the cloth (which remains presentable) and internally, mainly marginally; a few edges of leaves are frayed; some finger marks in margins. The chromolithographs show some splitting at their centrefolds, with some neat repairs, but are generally bright, though some have a few pencil marks. The book has been well used by its child owners, but has survived in acceptable and generally good condition. N° de réf. du libraire 146101
