First and only edition. Small octavo (18.5 cm); 544 pp, index; illus. 3/4 paper over leather with gilt-stamped Greek symbols extending vertically down the front board and gilt titling to spine; t.e.g., others deckle. Leather is worn esp along joints and to spine ends; corners chipped; some dust-soiling to fore-edge; internally near fine with only some light smudging to a few margins. A scarce and detailed history of the role Greek fraternities have played in college life leading up to the 20th century, especially in Philadelphia. Many black & white photographs of fraternity houses at the major universities around the country with portraits of some of the more prominent Philadelphia members of said fraternities. Description de la librairie

I, the Andalusia Bookman, have a stock of over 100,000 covering a wide range of items specializing in 19th and 18th c. illustrated books, chromolithos, Philadelphiana, rare anthropology, early hermeneutics, Natural history, first editions and signed items, Beat lit, '60's material, unusual occult, erotica and esoterica. This is my personal collection from which I am de-accessing most everything, including a vast amount of ephemera, art work (steel engravings, pouchoir, collotype), movie posters (of the 1940's - 50's) and a mass of important 19th c. bound periodicals (Oology to Archeology, Mathematics, Botany, Knitting), and 20th c. Art journals, Italian Fascist publications, etc., culled from Walter J. Johnson's liquidation, as well as a collection rare jazz records, including 100's of Boogie Woogie and BeBop '78s, And much more, just ask. I was previously established as The Book Merchants, the Philadelphia's Riverside Book Fair and 30th Street Station Book Fair. In 1991 I purchased the stock of Samuel Kleinman's legendary Schuylkill Book and Curio Shop of 4207 Lancaster Ave., Phila. PA.
