Titre : Guðsríki : sjö Erindi [Kingdom of God : ...
PUBLISHER: Staður Forlag Ár Reykjavík : Prestafélag Íslands, 1933. DESCRIPTION: 82 pages; 1 plate (portrait); 19 cm. Fine in decorative black cloth hardcover, lettered in gilt. Signed by Pastor of the Icelandic Lutheran Synod, the late Erik Sigmar. The author was successively editor of the following four Icelandic Canadian journals - Kennarinn, 1897-1901; Vinland, 1902-03; Aramot, 1905-09; Sameiningin, 1914-32. Jonsson, the son of a pioneer Icelandic-Canadian couple, was a Canadian Lutheran Minister of First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg (and for a while he was a pastor in Minneota, Minnesota). He was twice elected as head of the Icelandic Lutheran Synod for North America and the Winnipeg Ministerial Association (re the latter office, see Kristjanson, p. 344). His short stories were acclaimed, and were anthologized in Vestum Um Haf by Finbogason and Kvaran (source, Einarsson, History of Icelandic Prose Writers, p 250). Given that the author was Canadian, this is an item of Canadiana, though it was published in Iceland (by the Ministerial Association in Iceland). No reference to the book is found in Hjartar, though it fits his criteria for inclusion as stated on the front cover of his bibliography, Vesturheimsprent. SUBJECT: Religion; Lutheransim.
