Haerlem ( Haarlem ), Izaak en Johannes Enschede, Ordinaris Stads-Drukkers, 1740, (32) nn pp (including engraved frontispiece, title with engraved vignette and engraved coat of arms on page*3) + 258 pp + (14)(index) + (1)(errata) + (1)(bl) + 5 engraved plates (one folding), complete. Bound in contemporary half roan with marbled boards, smooth spine with black leather title label. Very fine copy. Account in Dutch of the tricentennial of the invention of printing. The author credits Laurenszoon Koster, a native of Haarlem, with this invention. In early 18th-century even in Holland there were doubts as to the claim of Koster. Johann Seiz tries here to remove these doubts by bringing forward an entirely new chronology which is nowhere corroborated and which was obviously entirely of his own imagination. (Bigmore/Wymann).
