Description du livre New York and London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1906., 1906. Complete five volume set. All hardcover, H 21.75cm x L 14.25cm, with no dust jackets. Each volume uniformly bound in handsome dark navy blue cloth with bright gilt stamped lettering and bars to spines. Light rubbing and mottling to boards, slender patches of cloth loss along bottom board edges and fore-edges; three volumes have a few negligible small slender chips to cloth at joints. Toning and some soiling to text block edges. Past owner's small hand-numbered name/city labels (for Dr. G.W. Acker, Port Gibson, Miss.) affixed at top left corner of each volumes' front pastedown along with ink ownership inscriptions of Freda Acker boldly written on each pastedown. Volume I additionally has two small magazine clippings affixed to front pastedown with remnants of removed newspaper clipping on opposing front free endpaper recto; additional magazine clipping affixed to rear free endpaper verso. Some scattered spots of soiling to interior pages of volumes but, overall, leaves are quite clean. Bindings retain some crispness. Volume I frontispiece has tissue guard with opposing title page also having guard sheet; no other volumes with frontis or title page guards. Also laid-in at Volume I's front endpapers is Harper & Brothers sixteen page promotional booklet for the set. B/w plates and illustrations throughout the set. Still an attractive very good- set.
