Description :

Green cloth with titles and state seal in black on front cover, titles on spine. Corners and spine ends worn, but book is solid with tight hinges. PO stamp to top and bottom edges. Edges are age-darkened. A tiny strip of paper with library number on it in faded ink is pasted to spine. Front pastedown and FFEP have black stamping reading "Library/U.S. Marine Hospital/ To Be Returned." Pastedown also has faded purple stamp reading "Property of the New Orleans Public Schools." FFEP also has purple stamp reading "Louisiana Contract Price 75 Cents." Rear endpaper has Marine Hospital stamp and 3 due dates. Rear pastedown has a paper "strap" holding library card with 3 handwritten names in faded ink. The library markings amount to c. 1900 ephemera and thus have a certain charm. The rest of the text is clean and unmarked. Grace King (1852-1932) was a native of New Orleans and a noted writer who was friends with Mark Twain and George Washington Cable. She wrote fiction, history, and biography. John R. Ficklen (1858-1907) was a professor of history and political science at Tulane University. The two also collaborated on the book Stories from Louisiana History. 246 pages, illustrated with B&W photos and drawings. A nice copy of a scarce book. We ship the same day or next business day after order is received. We pack carefully, with moisture protection, bubble wrap, and a cardboard "sandwich" to protect every book and ensure it arrives undamaged. Size: 4 x 7.50". N° de réf. du libraire 001952
