First edition, first printing, of author's second book, a novel. A near fine copy (but for minor spotting to top foredge) in fine dust jacket. This has been simply SIGNED BY MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM on the title page. In addition, laid-in loose is a fascinating full-page 34 line typewritten, signed letter from Cunningham which reads, in part "It's true that Golden States, my first novel, has been pretty much swept under the rug. I wrote if very quickly, in a panic over the fact that I was looking hard at thirty and hadn't done much of anything except say I was going to write a novel someday. I don't hate the book, but I'm aware . . . " etc. Letter is dated in April, 1994, still in its original envelope (which was NOT carefully opened). N° de réf. du libraire 4047
Synopsis : Two lifelong friends in their 20s form a triangle with a young woman in New York City. When she becomes pregnant, the three move to the country to set up housekeeping in Woodstock, embarking on a daring voyage toward a new vision of what a family can be. "A gripping, haunting piece of work from a writer of real promise and power".--Publishers Weekly.
Note de l'éditeur: Praise for A Home at the End of the World:
"Lyrical...memorable and accomplished." --The New York Times Book Review
"Novels don't come more deeply felt than Michael Cunningham's extraordinary four-character study... The writing...is a constant pleasure, flowing and yet dense with incisive images and psychological nuance." --Matthew Gilbert, The Boston Globe
"Cunningham writes with power and delicacy.... We come to feel that we know Jonathan, Bobby, and Clare as if we lived with them; yet each one retains the mystery that in people is called soul, and in fiction is called art." --Richard Eder, The Los Angeles Times
"Once in a great while, there appears a novel so spellbinding in its beauty and sensitivity that the reader devours it nearly whole, in great greedy gulps, and feels stretched sore afterwards, having been expanded and filled. Such a book is Michael Cunningham's A Home at the End of the World." --Sherry Rosenthal, San Diego Tribune
