PUBLISHER: Winnipeg : O.S. Thorgeirsson, 1916. DESCRIPTION: 67 p. ; 19 cm. SUBJECTS: Icelanders--Canada; Icelanders--United States. The author, Friðrik Jónsson Bergmann, was a clergyman of the Icelandic Lutheran Church. He taught Icelandic at Wesley College in Winnipeg. He was an an essayist and lecturer and editor of the Icelandic-Canadian Journal Aldamot (The Turn of the Century), published from 1891-1903. This journal was sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but was nevertheless a literary journal, containing lectures and book reviews. When Bergmann, a liberal theologian, parted ways with his more conservative colleagues, he founded the journal, Briedablik (Broad View, 1906-1914). He also wrote, compiled and translated other works. In this work he discusses chiefly church affairs but also Icelandic Canadian and Icelandic American assimilation and patriotism, etc. Written Source: Icelandic Prose Writers, by Stefan Einarsson.
