Octavo, cloth. First edition. A collection of eighteen stories, plus prologue and epilogue, that includes "The Velt," "Kaleidoscope," "The Long Rain," and "Zero Hour." This is a presentation copy with an early signed inscription by Bradbury to Morris Scott Dollens on the front free endpaper: "For Morris / Dollens -- / Who turns / Beasts into / Beauties! / With Great / Respect! / From / Ray Bradbury / 1952." Bradbury's inscription alludes to Dollen's photographic portrait of Bradbury reproduced on the rear flap of this book. Morris Scott Dollens (1920-1994) studied art and photography at the Minneapolis School of Art for a year and then began working for a commercial photographer. Dollens, an early SF fan, founded, in mid-1936, THE SCIENCE FICTION COLLECTOR, the first SF fanzine published in Minnesota. He produced thirteen issues before turning it over to John Baltadonis in June 1937. He moved to California in the 1940s where he was active in SF circles. He worked for several years at MGM studios, and early in the 1950s he began selling his paintings at SF conventions. Dollens produced at least 1700 paintings, mostly astronomical art. Anatomy of Wonder (1987) 3-63. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 256. Survey of Science Fiction Literature II, pp. 1008-13. A fine copy in very good or better dust jacket with touch of wear and several short closed tears at edges, just a bit of fading to the spine panel, and mild dust soiling to the rear panel. The jacket generally bright and attractive. A nice association copy. (#151275). N° de réf. du libraire 151275
