Description du livre George H. Doran, New York, 1926. Hardcover. First edition. Quarto. original boards, cloth spine. Illustrated with 101 black and white photographs. Foreword by Grace King. "Arnold Genthe's photography is world famous. In this volume he has caught forever the spirit of fast-vanishing old New Orleans in studies that are exquisite in their charm of light and shade, remarkable in their glimpses of character and place.New Orleans is a city of romance and mystery, of dim, cool patios, of picturesque houses and queer, old-world streets. These aspects are vanishing, slowly but inexorably superseded by 'progress' and the rigorous requirements of modern life. Arnold Genthe's work will be for all time a memorial to what has been." -from the dust jacket.
