Important documents for not only for the history of the Masonic movement in Mexico, but also of the history of Mexico, because of the important role the masonic lodges played in the struggle between the conservative and liberal partisans. The European Enlightenment lcame to Mexico argely through the lodges, and all the early leaders for independence are alleged to have been members -- Hidalgo, Morelos, et al. The documents summarize the development of the lodges up to that date, and locates the various lodges, including Coahuila and Texas. Both the York and Scottish Rite lodges, and their differences, are discussed. The issues between the two lodges increased sharply in the immediate years during the creation of the newly dependent nation, and they were finally suppressed.
