A propos de cet article

A view of the Nile and the Island of Philae in Egypt during the mid 19th century. The text underneath is an excerpt from Roberts's journal discussing the scene and some background of the area. Text on verso. David Roberts RA (1796 ? 1864) was a Scottish painter. He is especially known for a prolific series of detailed lithograph prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838?1840). These and his large oil paintings of similar subjects made him a prominent Orientalist painter. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841. Louis Haghe (1806, Tournai, Belgium ? 1885, Surrey) was a lithographer and watercolour artist. His most famous and ambitious work was his work with David Roberts.
